Mount Timothy Recreation Resort won’t be opening for this ski and snowboard season.
The decision was made today due to a lack of snow, along with the continued warm temperatures.
General Manager Launna Groves says that when it comes to precipitation, they’re likely to see rain before snow.
“Definitely wasn’t a decision taken lightly, it’s been something that we’ve been discussing all week unfortunately.” says Groves
“The uncooperative mother nature has not allowed us to open safely. We have been losing snow, we’re down to 25 centimetres now.”
Groves added that after speaking with Canada West, who governs ski resorts in western Canada, they aren’t the only ones closed for the season.
The plan now is to reopen the restaurant within the next week to 10 days, which will be open Thursday to Sunday from 11am to 5pm, and maybe be open for Family Day events.
She says that just because they’re not open for skiing, it doesn’t mean they’re not going to be open at all.
Lastly, Groves apologized and thanked their customers for wanting them to be open, and they hope to have everyone back next year.
Anyone who had purchased punch cards and gift certificates will have the expiry date removed, making them valid until use.
Season pass holders are asked to call the resort at 250-396-4095 to discuss options that have been put in place.
