Multiple Williams Lake men receive penalties for hunting on private property

Three Williams Lake men were handed a combined $9,000 penalty in connection with night hunting on private property.

In a post from the Conservation Officer Service, in October 2022, they encountered the three men hunting on private property west of Williams Lake with the use of high-powered lights.

They said that all three individuals were arrested for trespassing and hunting at night, and during their investigation, seized a pickup truck, three cellphones, four firearms and five dead mule deer bucks.

In December 2023, Silas Laceese, Peyal Laceese and Joseph Toby each pleaded guilty in Williams Lake court to hunting without consideration for the lives, safety or property of others and trespassing.

Each one received a $3,000 fine along with a $450 mandatory victim surcharge, as well as a three-year order not to hunt or accompany hunters outside of their traditional territory.

The men also agreed to write letters of apology to the victims of the offences.
