North Cariboo Residents Try To Save Their School

A group of Kersley residents are out to save their neighbourhood school.
It is one of three that is potentially on the chopping block according to a recommendation from the Cornerstone Planning Group, the consultants hired to look into the viability of all schools in the Quesnel School District.
Spokesperson George Edwards says the loss of the elementary school would be devastating.
He says without the school Kersley is finished, adding that their land values will drop by probably 10 to 20 percent.
Edwards says the solution to the problem is simple to him, just increase the catchment area.
He would like to see it extended down the highway to the Dale Lake Road, the Durrell Road, Loloff Road, Loloff Crescent.
Edwards says they have a petition that already has 80 names on it to save the school and he expects that number to grow.
He will be making a presentation to the Board at the next meeting on the 20th.
Besides Kersley, Cornerstone is also recommending that Baker and Parkland elementary schools be closed.
