Security room at the Quesnel Regional Airport could be getting a face lift

Quesnel City Council has endorsed a funding application for the Regional Airport.

The ask would be for about 240 thousand dollars to the BC Air Access Program, know as BCAAP.

Tommy Grant, the Airport and Transit Supervisor, says they will be changing the security room.

“Right now we have a single door that leads out to the departure area which obviously lets in cold air and in the summer it makes that room extremely hot, so the main portion of this project would be making a vestibule that would have a double door system that also would enhance our security out here.”

Grant says other elements of the project would include replacing furnaces and the hot water tank, as well as upgrading the lighting and making other energy efficient upgrades.

He says they have had some success in the past in getting money out of this program.

“We try to put in an application every year. They have done our Helipad recently, we did the sidewalks leading out to the apron and a couple of other previous projects so it’s a great source of funding for us.”

The City would be responsible for 25 percent of the cost of these projects, which would amount to around 80 thousand dollars.
