Police officer sentenced in connection with off-duty incident in Williams Lake

An RCMP officer has been found guilty of a lesser charge in connection with an off-duty incident in Williams Lake.

42-year old Constable Olavo Castro was found not guilty of a charge of unauthorized possession of a loaded restricted firearm in a vehicle, but guilty of the lesser charge of possession of a firearm where not allowed.

He received a suspended sentence and 12 months probation.

Castro, with BC Highway Patrol, was charged in connection with an off-duty incident in the Lake City on July 1st of last year.

Another count of occupying a vehicle knowing there was a restricted firearm was stayed.
