The Christmas spirit will be back in Barkerville this year

Barkerville’s Olde-Fashioned Christmas is back !

Stewart Cawood, the Manager of Public Programming & Media, says it will take place on December 16th and 17th.

“Barkerville hasn’t seen Olde-Fashioned Christmas since 2019, and then when the pandemic hit we weren’t able to do it for the last three winters.”

Here, he talks about what people can expect.

“The good old fashioned favorites such as sleigh rides and photographs with Father Christmas, Goldfield Bakery is going to be open, as well as the House Hotel will be open, as well as Mason & Daly, C.Strouss, and McPherson’s Jewellers uptown. There is going to be some live interpretation, there will be tours throughout the town, we’re going to have some choir groups out who are going to be singing for folks at the Methodist Church.”

Cawood says it means a lot to bring this event back.

“Barkerville’s favorite was Olde-Fashioned Christmas when it came to winter events, so us and a lot of people in the public have been very sad that we haven’t been able to do it, so we just feel it’s important especially for Christmas cheer around this time of year. It’s nice to have some things going on in Barkerville, and it’s such a magical time in the winter so it’s nice to be able to share that with our visitors.”

Cawood says there is a modest admission fee.

“General admission is going to be 10 dollars, as well as 8 dollars for seniors and then children and youth get in for fee with a non-perishable donation to the Food Bank.”

35,000 people came through the gate this past summer season, continuing a trend towards pre-COVID numbers.
