Williams Lake City Council gave its plan for the upcoming Halloween fireworks during the committee of whole meeting.
Even though it was decided that the fireworks would continue, it wasn’t necessarily made when council wanted.
“It was resolved, because time was of the essence, we’re running tight on schedule for ordering the materials.” says Gary Muraca, Chief Administrative Officer.
“Council as a whole were divided, they wanted to have a bit more discussion, but at the end of the day, they decided that the best thing to do was proceed with the fireworks.”
What about the Halloween fireworks after this year?
This is where the community would have a say, as staff will be conducting a survey to see if people would like to see something different.
Muraca says costs are only going up for fireworks, with it sitting at $6,500 for an eight minute show.
If the survey comes back favouring an alternative for fireworks, such as a laser show, then the city could look at something like an event hosting grant to help reduce costs to the taxpayer.
