Students, Public Will Have Input At CNC In Quesnel

More communication and consultation.
That was the recurring theme at a public meeting held at the College of New Caledonia in Quesnel on Tuesday. (Nov 24)
CNC President Henry Reiser was down from Prince George along with other members of the executive committee.
Morgan Ross is the new Regional Principal in Quesnel.
He says his responsibility is to be the liason for the campus and to receive input from the community and make sure that information gets to the Deans and the planning committees that are responsible for the decisions.
Ross came to Quesnel as part of a restructuring at CNC.
Regional Principals replaced Regional Directors at the satellite campuses which led many to believe there would be a loss of local autonomy.
Ross says he doesn’t see it that way.
He says he sees it as a different focus because he can now concentrate on engaging the community because he doesn’t have to look after academic delivery and administration.
The promise of more consultation comes after what many in the public perceived as heavy handed top down decision-making prior to the restructuring.
The other promise that came out of the meeting was that the goal was to enhance services and not cut them.
The issue that won’t go away for the college, pay parking, was also a sore spot among many in attendance.
In fact, most people that we talked to parked in neighbouring parking spots that were off campus and most importantly “free.”
