No Drink Order issued for Wells

A No Drink Order remains in effect for the District of Wells.

Mayor Ed Coleman says increased lead levels were discovered during routine testing.

“It’s because the lead levels are .008 and normal is .005.  We’ve flushed out the system, you know 22,000 gallons, and we have to do additional tests.  We’ve brought bottled water in for folks, and lots of people have cartridges on their taps that take out any metals.”

Coleman says they are on day three of the advisory and they hope to clear it up by the end of the week.

“The best way to clear it out of there is to turn your water on for quite a bit, so we’ve done that and we’ll just do additional tests.  It’s not a big amount, but it’s enough that we do have to put out the no drink order.”

218 Wells residents are potentially impacted by this.

Coleman notes that Wells has a business plan that includes a new water system down the road.
