They’re getting there but there is still some work to do.
That’s how Mary Sjostrom, a spokesperson for the Quesnel Community Foundation, describes how this year’s annual $50,000 dollar challenge is going.
An anonymous donor has once again agreed to match every dollar donated up to that mark.
“We’ve got til the 15th of December and we really would like to exceed expectations which we have done the last few years, but I totally understand that things are a little different this year. Every dollar that comes in we’re able to turn that around, whether it’s giving out scholarships and bursaries or whether it’s the grants. We gave out over a hundred thousand dollars last year.”
Sjostrom says all of the money raised will stay in the Quesnel area.
She says there are a number of ways people can donate.
“You can go onto our website, you can attend our office, Patty Morgan is there two or three days a week and our office is at AC&D. You can phone myself or you can phone any Director, our new President Bob Salmons is always willing to take calls.”
Sjostrom says the information can also be found on the back of their annual report that went out in the mail.
She says the Foundation is in its 21st year.
The endowment fund is at around 4 million dollars, and it’s the interest and earnings from that money, that goes back into the community in the form of grants, bursaries and scholarships.
