Quesnel businesses honoured over the weekend

The annual Business Excellence Awards were held at the Quesnel Seniors’ Centre on Saturday night.

Anita Slovak from Quesnel Fix Auto took home the big prize for Business Person of the Year.

She was one of 13 people who were nominated.

Concord Restorations won for Business of the Year for companies with 10 or more employees, while CF Diesel & Tire got the nod for Business of the Year for under 10 employees.

That category had 21 nominations, which was by far the most.

There were a dozen awards handed out in total.

For the Love of Dance took home New Business of the Year honours, Regan Richert won for Customer Service, and the North Cariboo Seniors’ Council was number one for Community inclusion.

Cariboo Adventure Media won for Tourism Excellence, and Alan and Lorraine Sanford for Agriculture Excellence.

The Home Based Business of the Year was CB’s Performance Horses.

The winner for Environmental Excellence was Double H Hay Sales, Aiyana Basi won for Social Leadership, and Barkerville Brewing took home the hardware for Greatest Improvement.

The event is sponsored by the Quesnel & District Chamber of Commerce.

Northern Health advises Quesnel and area residents that the emergency room at G.R. Baker Memorial Hospital will be closed from 6:00 p.m. Friday, July 18, until 8:00 a.m. Saturday, July 19.

KIJHL Announce Home Openers For 2025/2026 Season

The KIJHL has announced the regular schedule and home openers for the 2025/2026 season. The regular season starts on September 19, and each team will compete in 44 games during the regular season, which concludes on February 28, 2026.

Accident on Highway 97 On Ramp Closed Section Briefly

A single vehicle merging onto Highway 97 Northbound in Quesnel, hit a traffic pole. Police and the Quesnel Volunteer Fire Department closed the ramp down as the accident was assessed. Only the driver of the vehicle was taken to the hospital with suspected minor injuires.
