On Wednesday, November 2nd, a Bear Safety and Conflict Mitigation Workshop will be held in Quesnel.
The workshop is for people to learn how to protect plants and livestock, as bears could still be in search for food in November.
“I would say almost all of BC is actually bear country.” says Gillian Saunders, Project Coordinator for Grizzly Bear Coexistence Solutions.
“Education and awareness as to what to do if and when you do encounter a bear, also how to deal with their conflicts if bears are coming in and getting into things we don’t want them to be in.”
She added that bears affecting livestock is more common than they’d like it to be. The bears gravitate towards small live stock such as sheep, chickens, goats and pigs.
Saunders has over 20 years of experience in the field, with helping others prepare for any bear conflicts.
The workshop is free for anybody wanting to join, and will be held at the Quesnel Arts and Recreation Centre from 6:30pm-8:30pm.
