Bike Bridge Work Set to Continue in the River Valley

The City of Williams Lake has now awarded the long awaited bike bridge contract for the River Valley.

Work for the bridge began back in 2020, however the project was put on hold due to the flooding that occurred.

As for when the public can expect to be able to use the bridge, the City already has a target.

“The exact date unfortunately is not known right now. It’s going to be, of course when we consider the area to be safe for the public.” says Jeff Bernardy, Engineering Technologist for the City of Williams Lake.

“Our goal of course is spring to summer 2023.”

Council awarded the contract for the bike bridge construction to Quality Excavation. The total project value is said to be around $271,530, with an overage of $70,530.

The group is also working on two additional recovery bridges with the project values of $476,907.50 and $267,842.50.

As for whether the bridges will open at the same time, Bernardy says the City is still working on it’s strategy, but it’s possible that some areas will be deemed safer than others.
