Salvation Army in Quesnel to have Thanksgiving Day Lunch with a twist

The Salvation Army in Quesnel will be hosting a Pre-Thanksgiving Day lunch tomorrow. (Friday)

However, Lieutenant Tamara Randlesome says it won’t be a sit down lunch this year.

“We can’t have people in the building because we are working on renovations, but we are doing turkey and chicken, there’s stuffing, there’s vegetables, just a nice little takeaway Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow, just so that there is something out there for people in the community, we just didn’t want to do nothing.”

Randlesome says they are calling it the bag lunch program.

“It’s a bag meal to go. Anybody is welcome, you don’t have to show anything, you just come to the front door between 11 and 12-45.”

She says she’s not sure how many people they’ll get.

“It varies week to week. Three weeks ago we had 107 people, and it was social assistance payday two weeks ago so our numbers dropped down to between 60 and 70.”

Randlesome says the hope is that they can hold a sit down Thanksgiving next year.
