It was warm and dry throughout the Cariboo last month, and record warm in Williams Lake.
Derek Lee is a Meteorologist with Environment Canada.
“In Williams Lake the average temperature for September, 2022 (daytime high and nighttime temperature combined) was 14 degrees, and the average would have been 10.6 degrees so almost 3 1/2 degrees warmer than average.”
The records for the Lake City go back to 1961.
Lee says it was also drier than normal in Williams Lake for September.
“Williams Lake only received 14.4 millimetres. It normally receives 41.8 millimetres, and that’s around 34 percent of what people would usually see. That ranks as the 9th driest September on record.”
The average temperature in Quesnel last month was also much warmer, but not record warm.
“The Quesnel average temperature for September, 2022 was 13.3 degrees, and the usual would have been 11.5 degrees, so almost two degrees warmer on average.”
Lee says there was 30.8 millimetres of precipitation in Quesnel last month, down from an average of 50.2
Looking ahead, Lee says we can expect more mild weather.
“Our midterm forecast all the way up to at least the end of October, we’re looking at still above average temperatures to likely continue for the Cariboo. So at least for the next 10 days or so we’re looking at mainly sunny skies coming in with our daytime high temperatures in the low 20’s still hanging around, and not much precipitation in store.”
Lee says that will chance once we get into late fall, into November and December, when it will start to cool down because we will naturally be further away from the sun.
