Final Fate of Slumber Lodge not to be known until at least mid-December

The waiting game continues on if the Slumber Lodge in Williams Lake will be headed towards demolition.

Mayor Walt Cobb, says at this point the City is not even certain what the final fate of the dilapidated building will be.

“We had given some guidelines and he was to meet them by, well by the 1st of November he was to have power hooked up and apparently it has not,” he said.

“Staff have indicated that he is in the process but I don’t know where that is.”

Cobb says the owner has been given until Dec. 15 and if the requirements are not met Council will determine how and when the City will proceed with demolition.

He admits he does not know why the process is taking so long.

“I guess we backed off a little bit because he did put up the fence around and secure it which was a big issue and he promised-he came before Council and promised he would do certain things by a certain time,” Cobb said.

“At this stage, he has not fallen through with his commitments so it’s getting a little frustrating.”

Council voted on serving the owner with a remedial action order to demolish the building back in July.
