Halloween Fireworks Show and Bonfire will go ahead in Williams Lake

Williams Lake City Council approved the annual Halloween Fireworks Show and Bonfire at this week’s Regular Council Meeting.

A report submitted to council by Recreation Coordinator for Adult Programs Maria McKee says the bonfire will be lit at 7:15 PM at the Stampede Grounds, and the fireworks will start at 7:45 PM. In addition, hot chocolate and hot dogs will be given out by donation by the Lions Club.

According to the report, the RCMP’s local community policing volunteers will assist with the managing of security and traffic, TOLKO is donating firewood, Municipal Services is setting up the bonfire, Community Services is organizing the groups and activities, and the Williams Lake Fire Department will be setting up the fireworks as well as extinguishing the bonfire.

The report says the event will have a limit of 100 spectators to adhere to Interior Health’s COVID-19 restrictions. Tickets will be available on a first-come-first-serve basis at the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex.

The Quesnel Search and Rescue received a $5,000 donation from the Quesnel Elks Lodge #298. The Director of Quesnel Search and Rescue says donation will be going towards advancing the Search and Rescue's technical rope rescue kit.
