The Province has launched a new website to help keep the Cariboo’s drivers up to date on roads damaged by major slides and washouts.
“The Cariboo has been hit hard by changing weather patterns, which have caused unprecedented slides and road washouts,” said Rob Fleming, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure. “People are understandably concerned about damage to roads they rely on every day. We are working hard to find solutions at each project site, and this new website will give people up-to-date, detailed information about what’s happening with the sites that affect them.”
The Cariboo Road Recovery Projects website addresses the impacts on 10 Cariboo roads caused by unprecedented flooding and freshet in the Cariboo this year. Some roads on the site include the Quesnel Hixon Road, Highway 20 at Dog Creek, and Highway 97 at Cottonwood Hill.
Each of the affected roads has its own page with details such as where it is, what the conditions are, and what is the status of the work being done.
The province says they are investing $819 million into highway corridor rehabilitation throughout the province through the 2021 budget.
