A fundraiser for an 8-year-old girl who has been in hospital since December of last year will be taking place in Quesnel.
Shawn and Michelle Taylor spoke with us from Toronto where their daughter Laurel is continuing her recovery from a double lung transplant.
They say hearing the words of PTLD, which is a common form of cancer in transplant recipients was scary.
Laurel’s dad says despite this, and Laurel having had multiple strokes, she remains to put on a brave face.
Laurel was diagnosed with Pulmonary Veno-Occlusive Disease on Dec. 15 with the only successful treatment for the disease being a lung transplant.
Shawn and Michelle say even though it is really hard for them they understand there are families who are going through things that are even more difficult and that it puts you into perspective how big the world is and the supports that are out there.
They say they anticipate that they may be in Toronto until spring and that the Ronald McDonald House has allowed them to have a home away from home.
A Day in Fairyland for Laurel, who likes Tinkerbell and things that will take you to a different place according to her parents, will take place at the West Fraser Timber Park on September 20th from 1 pm until 3.
The 30-minute walk through the forest will feature fairies, gnomes, and magical fun.
