Missing Snowmobiler located

A happy ending for a scary incident at Yanks Peak!

Search and Rescue crews from Williams Lake, Quesnel, 100 Mile House, and Prince George were joined by members of the Williams Lake Powder Kings in the search for a Raymond Repetowski.

“He went snowmobiling in the morning, and left me the directions to where he was,” explains Raymond’s wife, Laura. “It was about 7:00pm and he wasn’t home yet, and I knew that was out of character. I waited a couple hours because I didn’t want to panic, but around 9:30 I called the police… They drove out to Wells, by Yanks Peak, and they phoned me back and said they found his truck and trailer, but no sled and no Ray. They sent a search party out right away.”

After search headquarters were set up at the Yank’s Peak Safety Cabin, Safety director with the Powder Kings Sue Price put out the call for club members to help look for the sledder.

Members searched on sled, and a helicopter was scouting the area.

Around 10:30 this morning, Raymond Repetowski was found in good condition.

“I just got off the phone with the police, and he said he’s cold and wet! They took him to the safety cabin just to warm him up, but they’re not sure if he’ll be going to the hospital for frostbite or anything.”

Repetowski says Raymond had planned on meeting other snowmobilers that morning, and that he knew the area quite well.

“He knew there was a safety cabin out there, he said he was going to stay on the trail- things like that. He always paid to use the groomed paths, really appreciated it. So I don’t know what happened, maybe his skidoo broke down. It just goes to show you it could happen to anyone.”

When he gets to see his wife again, Raymond can expect “a big hug, and a kick in the butt!”
