Williams Lake Gets $2.8 Million in Funding for Upgrades to the River Valley Trunk Sewer

It was another good day for the City of Williams Lake according to Cariboo-Chilcotin MLA Donna Barnett on Thursday.

Barnett who was at the River Valley Trail, announced $1.4 million dollars from both the provincial and federal government in upgrades to the sewer system, with another $1.4 million in funds through the City.

She says water and sewer is always a priority.

“And so the provincial government with funding with their partners, the federal government one-third, provincial one-third, local one-third, so the focus is on applications-strong, good applications that come in for infrastructure for sewer and water are always a high priority with the government.”

Mayor Walt Cobb says the funding which will support the twinning of the City’s sanitary sewer main in several places where it crosses the river, will help prevent wastewater overflow.

There are 7 locations within the sewer system that are experiencing blockage.

Construction on the project is anticipated to start next year and will likely continue into 2017.
