MP for Cariboo-Prince George Comes Under Fire Over Spending

The Conservative MP for Cariboo-Prince George has come under fire after an article questioning his spending was published in a right wing newspaper.

Dick Harris was found to have the second highest expense claim in the country at over 500,000 dollars.

Its allowed by the house says Harris who claims that the expenses primarily cover the travel for he and his wife between their home in Osoyoos, the riding and the capitol

The House of Commons *allows* this. It encourages spouses to support their MP husbands and wives in any way they can – and one way is to be with them whenever they can and I appreciate that.

There’s a personal vendetta that could be contributing to the article’s writing says Harris who claims to have a prior relationship with the author

That would be a fellow by the name of Peter O’Neil, who I have not gotten along with for many years. I do know that during the two years that he’s talking about (in his article), we bought exactly the same number of flight passes for myself and my wife, so I think its more the timing of when the charge was accounted for in my budget than anything.”

Harris will be retiring this autumn and collecting an annual pension of over 120,000 dollars for his twenty two years in office.
