Fires at Watch and Horsefly Lakes Now Under Control, Puntzi Lake Still Burns

The forest fire at Watch Lake has been contained.

That’s the official word from the Cariboo Fire Centre’s information officer Terry Murphy who gives some details about the scope of the burn:

It was 0.75 hectares, but is 100% contained. It’s in mopup stage now. Today, we have eleven firefighters and a helicopter on scene doing hot spots.

Fire Officials also report that the two hectare blaze at Horsefly Lake is now under control.

Meanwhile near Puntzi Lake, 35 homes remain under an evacuation order with another 20 on high alert with the wildfire having grown to approximately 1,200 hectares in size.

Crews and heavy equipment operators had  worked overnight to establish a control line along the south flank of the fire.

The BC Wildfire Service currently has 76 firefighters, three helicopters, airtankers and eight pieces of heavy equipment on scene today.

The wildfire is still exhibiting aggressive fire behaviour and challenging suppression efforts.
