QUESNEL COUNCIL RELEASES ONLINE BUDGET SURVEY RESULTS

Police, Economic Development and snow removal.

Those three priorities topped the list of responses from Quesnel residents who took part in an online budget process last month.

Director of Finance Kari Bolton went over some of the results at Tuesday night’s City Council meeting…

“Some of the highlights include 92 percent of the respondents to the survey are satisfied or feel neutral about the cities 2018 projects, 77 percent want to hire additional police officers and 73 percent are willing to pay a tax increase to fund additional officers.”

The survey showed that 45 percent wanted to fund five or more RCMP officers.

69 percent wast to maintain all existing services, and pay for any additional city services.

Other priorities beyond the top three were parks, trails and recreation, followed by fire, garbage and recycling, community events, city beautification and transit.

Quesnel Mayor Bob Simpson noted that when it came to forms of communication, just 54 percent were satisfied with just an online survey…

” So I think we may then want to look at some kind of combination again and use the survey maybe in advance of a town hall or something along those lines. Our intention is to engage as much as possible, and I think this is one of the tools that seems to be growing in its utilization.”

This year’s on-line survey was used by a lot more people than last year however.

There were 544 participants, which was up from just 116 last year.
