It was an evening of celebrating women of all shapes and sizes while raising funds for the Women’s Contact Society in Williams Lake.
The first Vintage Valentine’s Burlesque Show took place Saturday evening with a sold-out crowd, a buffet-style dinner, vendors, and performances by Quesnel’s Foxxie Follies followed by an oldie dance party.
“I did a lot of work this year that will be just copy and paste next year so it would be a lot easier the second time, and the response was just so amazing,” said organizer Kristen Foote.
“Even up to 20 minutes before the show I was getting messages for tickets so obviously there is a demand for it in Williams Lake. I definitely would like to do it again.”
Foote estimates the evening pulled in around $10,000 for the Women’s Contact Society.
“That’s pretty great for our first year,” she said.
Director of the Women’s Contact Society, Irene Willsie said the funds will go towards their empowerment programs for girls and also their anti-violence work.
“Kristen and her group of volunteers have done an amazing job, and it was so generous of them to have us the benefactor of this great show,” Willsie said.
“I hope that they choose us again next year, but I think this is a lesson that everybody needs to celebrate their own body and everybody wants to celebrate all shapes and sizes of women.”
