UNBC student from Quesnel named 2015 valedictorian

A UNBC student from Quesnel who will be receiving a Master of Education in Counselling has been named as one of this year’s Valedictorians.

Stephen Bennett, says it means a lot to him.

“I’m really honored to be able to sort of represent and sort of summarize the experience of being at UNBC and reflect not only my own experience but also the collective experience of the UNBC community and specifically the UNBC student community.”

Bennett adds that were a variety of reasons why he chose to return to UNBC to complete his second degree.

“Well to be quite honest the small class sizes and the fact that it fosters a multi-dimensional experience for students; there’s a real focus on not only the academics but forming relationships with classmates and colleagues.”

“It also does a really good job of applying theoretical knowledge to the actual field and giving you a chance to do research.”

Bennett who worked on a community-based thesis looking at families who were raising children with suspected but not yet diagnosed Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder plans to continue his education next year at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine in Thunder Bay.

Linda Horianopolous who is originally from Kitimat was also named as Valedictorian.

UNBC’s convocation celebrations in Prince George take place on May 29th.
