Annual Drinking Water Report Presented

An annual water report describing the water system and summary of quality testing and management during 2014 was recently presented to Quesnel City Council.

Ken Coombs, Director of Public Works and Engineering, says they are already collecting water samples for next’s year report which is a requirement under the BC Drinking Water Regulations Protection Act.

“We’re sampling at minimum twice per week at various locations throughout our system.”

“So our sampling it’s continuous; every week we’re sampling. Then we’ll do other samples right at the reservoirs, other samples right at the wellheads.”

Over 300 samples were tested for E-coli, total coliforms, and turbidity, which Coombs says received a clean bill of health.

“There was no indication of E-coli in any of those samples.”

“We did have a few hits of total coliforms. The process there is you immediately resample at the same location.”

“Those all proved to be clean.”

2,951,039 cubic meters of water was used under the Quesnel water system last year.

The full report can be viewed here.
