Quesnel Ready to implement physician recruitment strategy

A collaborative partnership is set to start the implementation of a locally driven physician recruitment strategy in Quesnel following a meeting this afternoon.

Cariboo North MLA, Coralee Oakes says the 4 point action plan is a great example of what can happen when we work together.

Family Physician Dr. Dietrich Furstenburg, who is just 2-days on the job after having been recruited from South Africa, says the points that have been put in place are quite good, including the development of a local primary care clinic this summer.

Mayor Bob Simpson says the City can take a lead in a lot of the initiatives while they continue to work with Northern Health.

Simpson adds that it is also critical to recognize the contributions of current family physicians.

The 3 other points of the physician recruitment strategy in Quesnel include:

  • supporting social integration and spousal support for new recruits and their families
  • ensuring Northern Health and physicians enhance the partnership with the City, MLA for the Cariboo North, Cariboo Regional District and Cariboo Chilcotin Regional Hospital District
  • executing a communication strategy to engage the broader community

Further information on the physician recruitment within the Northern Health Region, including Quesnel, can be found online at physicians.northernhealth.ca
