Volunteers honored at 35th annual Volunteer Citizen of the Year Dinner and Awards Banquet

Florence White is Quesnel’s 2014 Volunteer Citizen of the Year!

Florence was selected at last night’s 35th annual Dinner and Awards banquet held at the Royal Canadian Legion.

She has dedicated more than 35 years to serving as a volunteer in the community on various fronts including brownies, the Lion’s Club and as a member of the Hospital Auxiliary at GR Baker Hospital since 1979.

Quesnel City Council Ron Paull, the Chair of the Volunteer Citizen of the Year Committee, says it was a packed house at the event.

Bob Sales was also nominated and Paull is quick to point out that there are no losers when it comes to volunteering…

“I don’t know if you would characterize it as winners. We’re all winners.”

“I guess Quesnel, the community, is the big winner when it comes to the benefits of volunteerism in the community.”

Paull says Dave Sutton and the Kopetski Family, which has raised more than $125,000 in the Relay for Life since 2002, were also recognized as silent heroes.
