Woman Missing Near Yunesit’in First Nation Located

Update 1:50 pm: Unit chief of the Central Cariboo Search and Rescue Rick White said a search member called him to report that a woman they were searching for southwest of the Yunesit’in First nation has been located.

She will be transported by helicopter to either Alexis Creek Health Centre or Cariboo Memorial Hospital in Williams Lake to receive medical attention for what is believed to be a minor injury.

“Good news for sure,” said White.

Original Story: The search continues for a woman who is believed to have gone missing while picking mushrooms with family members near the Yunesit’in First Nation.

“We had about eight of our local searches out last night with the RCMP and the RCMP dog handler. They got back to town about 3 o’clock in the morning,” said Rick White with Central Cariboo Search and Rescue.

“We also have a search manager and search team from the Nechako Valley arrive last night about 10 and we have search teams coming in from the north and the south.”

A helicopter with spotters according to White was airborne Thursday morning around 10.

“We’re into day two and we’re hoping for a positive outcome,” he said.

“The fire from last year would be a challenge working that terrain but we have a few locals working with us from the First Nation.  I talked with one of their leaders last night and we intend on teaming up with them for information.”
