Cariboo Fire Centre Responds to Lightning Caused Wildfire On North Arm of Quesnel Lake

Lightning was the cause of a wildfire discovered Friday on the North Arm of Quesnel Lake.

“There are six firefighters on site with the support of a helicopter,” says fire information officer Jessica Mack.

“Right now they are working on the lightning striked tree and they have updated the status to under control. They are not expecting any issues with extinguishing this fire.”

Mack says the fire which was discovered Friday is a spot fire estimated at 0.01 hectares in size.

“It was reported to the 1-800 centre,” she says.

“So if you do spot a fire be sure that you call the 1-800 number [*5555 on a cellphone or 1 800 663-5555 toll-free] and then that will get filtered to the specific fire centre from there.”

Since April 1st, the Cariboo Fire Centre has responded to 72 wildfires.
