Williams Lake Businesses Donate Funds to Bring A Rainbow Crosswalk to the City

A week after receiving unanimous support from City Council, the Williams Lake Pride Committee received the funds it needed to install a rainbow crosswalk by FBB Chartered Professional Accountants and New World Coffee and Tea House.

“I’m trying not to cry,” said Pride Committee founder and president Willa Julius.

“This is wonderful. It just brings a lot of warmness to my heart to see our community and people like Sue, Brice, and Kane giving us this opportunity to offer a safe space within Williams Lake-it makes me very proud.”

The cheques to the Williams lake Pride Committee totaled $2,850 with FBB contributing $2,350 and the remaining $500 by New World.

“One of my mottoes in life is choose to be kind and you’ll always be right so when this opportunity came up I was quite excited and glad to be a part of, ” says Kane Fraser with FBB Chartered Professional Accountants noting that he was contacted by Brice O’Neil of New World one morning.

“We have a family members that participate in the Pride movement so for us it was close to our hearts and we believe that the community should get behind this and support this ” says owner of New World Sue Lachance.

“We have Willa to thank for taking the lead on this and we think it’s great.”

The Pride Committee will be meeting with the City’s Public Works Committee on July 4 to determine a finalized location for the crosswalk and any required permits.

“We’ve got lots of businesses that are still contributing which is like holy smokes we can keep this maintained for quite some time,” said Julius.

“It’s so great to see.”
