Quesnel City Council has thrown it’s support behind a project to expand the skateboard park in Baker Creek Park.
The West Quesnel Business Association, in partnership with the City, will now apply for a 150 thousand dollar Co-Op Community Spaces Grant.
Funds for planning the expansion, as Economic Development Officer Amy Reid, are already in place…
“The youth that use the West Quesnel Skateboard Park have been fundraising in order to obtain plans for an expanded skateboard park. These funds, with funds allocated by Council for plans for the Baker Creek Park as a whole will cover the cost required to complete the new skateboard park design.”
The youth contribution has already surpassed 44-hundred dollars and the City has set aside 25 thousand for the project.
Mayor Bob Simpson noted that 60 thousand dollars from the Northern Development Initiative Trust could also be available.
The total cost of the project is estimated at 250-thousand dollars.
