Williams Lake man facing numerous charges following motor accident in Quesnel

A Williams Lake man is facing numerous charges following an accident in Quesnel last night.

RCMP say they received a report of an erratic driver at around twenty after 8.

Police say a red pick-up truck was traveling north on Highway 97, about 55 kilometers south of Quesnel.

The same vehicle was spotted about an hour later on the Highway in town but when an officer activated his emergency lights and attempted to pull it over the truck slowed.

Although the truck appeared to be coming to a stop on Legion Drive, it turned right onto Mclean Street and accelerated at a high rate of speed.

Fearing for the public’s safety, RCMP says the officer pulled over and did not pursue the suspect.

Moments later the officer observed the suspect vehicle fail to stop for a stop sign on McLean at the Carson Avenue intersection and it was struck by another vehicle.

Police say four people in the 2nd vehicle were injured but that the injuries were minor in nature.

RCMP say the suspect vehicle kept going but that a Williams Lake man was arrested moments later.

Police say he was found near the vehicle on foot.

It was later confirmed that the vehicle had been stolen earlier in the day from Williams Lake.

The suspect who is expected to appear in court later today, faces numerous charges including possession of stolen property, failing to remain at the scene of an accident and flight from police.
