TNG Says Accord Is Just A Start

The Tsilhqot’in National Government is addressing concerns raised by neighbouring First Nations about the Nenqay Deni Accord.

Chief Joe Alphonse, Tribal Chair of the TNG, describes the accord as a contribution agreement to begin discussions around long outstanding issues.

He says a lot of First Nations have misinterpreted that it is a final agreement…

“This is not a final agreement, we are a long ways from a final agreement. This is an agreement that will allow us to engage with the province and more importantly it will allow us to engage with our neighbouring first nations to resolve issues

Alphonse says it will allow First Nations to solidify their positions with each other and have the financial resources to do that.

He says engaging with their neighbours will continue to be a top priority.

Alphonse says the First Nations that have expressed concerns include the Southern Carrier Northern Shuswap First Nations.
