Quesnel To Pilot Job Creation

Quesnel has been selected by the Province to be the site of a pilot project on job creation.

Cariboo North MLA Coralee Oakes, in an exclusive interview with Cariboo Country/The Goat, says it is the product of meetings that have been taking place over the past year with community members, economic development, the City of Quesnel and the Cariboo Regional District.

Oakes says they will kick things off on September 20th.

“we will be having a significant provincial day where several ministries will be in Quesnel working with economic diversification, working with local governments, and this just really builds on the work that has happened.”

Oakes says is it really transitional-based support for communities that may be facing significant changes…

“to identify what programs does the province currently have that the community can access, are there gaps that is currently required to help communities such as the cariboo benefit from job creation, supporting small businesses, looking at where growth can be.“

Oakes says they will be looking at what kind of programs does Quesnel need to be attracting to our college or university, what needs to be done around forest policy to support more utilization of roadside piles, to support small scale salvage and better utilization of pine beetle wood that’s still out there.
