Boil Water Notice Remains For South Cariboo Residents

A boil water notice continues for users of the Lac La Hache Water System.

It was issued on Friday after small levels of bacteria were found in the system.

The water was immediately chlorinated and testing has been ongoing since then.

Cariboo Regional District Board Chair Al Richmond says “it takes around 24 hours to get the tests back so testing today (Aug 2), we anticipate having the results from today tomorrow and the results from Thursday on Friday and we’re hoping if that works out we’ll be able to resume normal operations.”

Richmond says they need to see clear samplings from the lab on consecutive days before they can lift the ban.

For now residents are being asked to boil their water for at least one minute before drinking, cooking, washing dishes, brushing teeth or watering animals.

This is not the first time there has been a boil water notice for this system.

Richmond says they had back to back false tests about 12 years ago.

He says it was later determined that the lab had made a mistake.
