People Will Have Say On New Public Works Building In Quesnel

There will still be a referendum on a new public works facility in Quesnel, although Mayor Bob Simpson says they’re not sure at this point when that will be.

The project was sent back to the drawing board after more than 10 percent of voters rejected the idea of borrowing 10 million dollars for it in the alternative approval process.

Simpson says they learned a lot from that process and some of the options that they needed to explore.

“We can do some of the site prep with our own forces, we were given some advice on the design of the building and some of the materials that we can use so all of that has been taken into account.”

Simpson says the Build Canada Fund, funding from the Federal and Provincial Governments, may be an option now as well as public buildings have been added to the list of potential projects.

“We’re not sure what that will look like, we’re not sure whether or not we would qualify in this particular case but it’s an opportunity that wasn’t there before that needs to be explored.”

Simpson says they’ve asked staff to come back to Council in the fall with some options for consideration.
