Quesnel Posties Frustrated Over Uncertainty

Postal workers in the Cariboo will soon know if they are going to be locked out.

Canada Post has served 72-hour lockout notice and Derek Bouchard, the Presidents of CUP-W Local 819 in Quesnel, that means they can be legally locked out at midnight eastern time tomorrow (Friday) night.

Bouchard says it is frustrating.

-everybody, we all want to work, we want a negotiated settlement so when we’re hearing things like this is our final offer and take it or leave it it is kind of discouraging when there was progress being made in negotiations. we want to keep going with our regular working lives so it is frustrating with the uncertainty sure

Bouchard says one of the main issues for them is pay equity among rural and urban carriers.

He also says he’s not sure where the Corporation gets the number that their demands will cost a billion dollars.

Bouchard says Canada Post has been profitable for 20 years.

He says there are roughly 40 rural letter carriers in Quesnel and around 50 combined in Williams Lake and 100 Mile House.
