Fire Damages School District Office In Quesnel

There was a fire at the School District Office in Quesnel yesterday. (May 29)
Fire Chief Sylvain Gauthier says they were dispatched to the main office on Northstar Road at around 4 o’clock.
He says ” upon arrival by the duty officer he noticed that the fire was at the rear of the building and the fire was contained to the exterior of the building.”
Gauthier says someone at the neighboring Rec Centre called the fire department.
He says 28 members responded within five minutes and the fire was quickly put out.
While most of the damage was contained to the outside of the building, Gauthier says there was smoke damage inside.
He says the staff are working out of the downtown Helen Dixon Office for the time being.
Gauthier says the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Accident on Highway 97 On Ramp Closed Section Briefly

A single vehicle merging onto Highway 97 Northbound in Quesnel, hit a traffic pole. Police and the Quesnel Volunteer Fire Department closed the ramp down as the accident was assessed. Only the driver of the vehicle was taken to the hospital with suspected minor injuires.
