Wildfire North of Puntzi Lake 100% Contained

A lightning caused wildfire 7 kilometers north of Puntzi Lake is now 100% contained.

Cariboo Fire Centre Information Officer Emily Epp says the weather has definitely been working in their favor.

“We are expecting to receive a good amount of precipitation today on the fire. So with the dozer guards, and the burn off operation we are able to get water around the fire and now it’s 100% contained.”

Epps says there are 42 firefighters and 3 pieces of heavy equipment working on the fire today and into the weekend with the goal of getting it to the patrol stage.

She says although the last estimated size of the blaze was 182 hectares, crews were conducting some burn off operations and that the actual size is now estimated at 200 hectares.
