School District 28 Trustee Elected to Board of Directors of BCSTA

School District No. 28 Trustee Gloria Jackson has been elected to the Board of Directors of British Columbia School Trustees Association (BCSTA).

Tony Goulet, Board Chair for the District says they now have a voice in giving the Ministry and Government direction in where they want to go with public education.

“So the voice should be of course the funding and downloading of costs and those things can be brought, and also a Northern perspective on what’s happening with the declines in the enrollment and things that are happening in the North that don’t always come to the Lower mainland.”

Jackson has been a Trustee for 10 years and was one of five BCSTA Directors elected on the first round of balloting.

“There’s only five Directors elected. We’ve been trying to get a Northern voice on the BCSTA for sometime-we’ve run candidates from Prince George and Williams Lake. It was exciting to see Gloria get elected,” says Goulet.

The BCSTA serves and supports BC’s Boards of Education in their key work of improving student achievement, and acts as Boards unified voice in advocating to government on behalf of public education within the province.

Trustee Jackson has served as one of eight members on BCSTA’s Aboriginal Education Committee and is currently the Vice-Chairperson of the Quesnel Board of Education.
