Outgoing Chair says goodbye at Chamber AGM

The annual general meeting of the South Cariboo Chamber of Commerce was held Thursday afternoon.

The only outgoing board member is Chair Jennifer Appleby.

Meanwhile, there are three new directors including Save on Foods General Manager Craig Lee whom we caught up with after. Lee says, “I’m looking at myself as being more in a supportive type role. I’ll get my input at the meetings but I just want to be part of the machine that makes the town better.”

Meanwhile, Appleby, who served a single year term, reflects on one of the past year’s highlights.

“We did go up to the Prosperity hearings. We had Len Doucette speak, former Chamber director Al Roberts and even Leon Chretien. We had some really well versed people on the board who were able to speak about Prosperity and be in favour of it.”

Appleby says they also changed several bylaws, which included updating old language.

She says another highlight was the continuation of strengthening the relationship between the board and the District of 100 Mile. She admits in the past there have been different levels of hardship between the Chamber, the District and the CRD, but that that’s all in the past.

Councilman and Acting Mayor Spence Henderson was also on hand for opening remarks and he said those disputes mostly involved people having their own agendas and only wanting to go in their own direction.

The Chamber will select a new Chair when they hold a retreat later this month. The 12 member board is an increase from 10 during the past year.

“It was a good year. It was busy, and up and down at times, but I learned a lot, and we got through some things we’d been working on a long time. It was a good group,” says Appleby.

The rest of the board consists of new directors Rob Fry and Nick Christiansen (and Craig Lee), as well as remaining board members Leon Chretien, Keith Greenalgh, Ralph Myhill-Jones, Rick Takagi, Len Doucette, Sean Watson, Rainer Myer, Amanda Usher, and Carl Gimse.
