Quesnel SPCA Remains Closed Through Month of June

It is looking as though the Quesnel SPCA branch will not be reopened until July.

The Quesnel branch announced at the end of April that the branch would be closed for ‘a building assessment’.

“The work is following repairs done in 2022, but we noticed some disturbances in the drywalls and ceiling,” says Kaila Wolf, Senior Manager of Communications for the BC SPCA. “We decided to go back and do further assessments to ensure that we prioritize safety for our staff, our animals, and our volunteers.”

Wolf says there have been some delays in the necessary repairs to Quesnel’s branch. However, she says construction crews are on-site to complete the repairs as quickly as possible.

“It’s taken a little bit longer than we were hoping for originally. We had hoped to reopen in June. At this point, it looks like those repairs will likely take us through June, and we’ll hopefully reopen in July for the summer.”

While the branch is closed, Wolf says SPCA animal centre staff have been rellocated to work out of the Williams Lake and Prince George offices, still serving the community of Quesnel.

She says the biggest difference is dealing with stray animals. While the SPCA branch is closed, anyone that needs to call about a stray and lost animal is directed to call the City of Quesnel’s Bylaw Enforcement directly.

Wolf says if anyone needs help from the SPCA for other needs beyond a stray animal, is directed to call the Animal Helpline at 1-855-622-7722.

Despite the branch’s closure, the Quesnel SPCA is having a pop-up food bank at the branch on Thursday, June 5. The Quesnel SPCA will also accept pet food donations at the pop-up food bank, as well.
