West Fraser Provides Update On MDF Explosion And Fire

The West Pine MDF plant in Quesnel, the siteĀ of an explosion and fire last week, will re-open but not until it’s safe.
The President and CEO of West Fraser provided an update this morning.
Ted SaraphimĀ says it won’t re-open untilĀ the company completes it’s investigation, determines what the root cause of what failed inside the MDP forming process equipment, and are confidentĀ they have aĀ solution in place to ensure a similar incident can never happen again.
Saraphim says safetyĀ is a core value and business priority for West Fraser.
In the meantime,Ā he says that all of their employees will remain fully employed as cleanup and repair activities are commenced and completed.
Saraphim also praised how the employees managed through Wednesday’sĀ (March 9th) traumatic eventĀ and the aftermath.
He also thanked the emergency services personnel, particularly the Quesnel Volunteer Fire Department, for how they responded to the fire.

Big Donation Gives a Big Step for Quesnel Search and Rescue

The Quesnel Search and Rescue received a $5,000 donation from the Quesnel Elks Lodge #298. The Director of Quesnel Search and Rescue says donation will be going towards advancing the Search and Rescue's technical rope rescue kit.
