Nazko Releases Healing Fire Schedule

The Nazko First Nation has released its monthly schedule for its Healing Fires.

Nazko started hosting a Healing Fire to help the vulnerable communities living in and around Quesnel, with its first held in March.

The next Healing Fire will be held on May 13 in Quesnel’s Spirit Square. Then, during the summer months, Nazko will change the venue to the Baker Bridge near the skateboard park.

“As the months get warmer, we’re going to start doing barbecues,” says Corina Clement, an organizer of the Healing Fires with the Nazko Health Centre. “It’ll be nice to be at the Bridge, in the open field and under the hut, everyone can join, have some barbecue, sit, gather, and visit.”

Clement says that with April’s event having passed, the First Nation has started to see growth in people interested in the community. At first, a handful of groups registered to host and provide food, but now over 10 have registered, with more showing interest.

She says the City of Quesnel and the Downtown Association have been a major help to Nazko getting permission to put on the Fires. She also thanks Mo Chara for providing the soups and food at both the previous fires.

If anyone wants to register to be a host for one of the Healing Fires or wants to find out more, there is more information on the Nazko First Nation’s Facebook page. Or call the Nazko Health Centre.
