New Hotel Coming to Quesnel

Quesnel’s Highway 97 skyline will be getting a new building to outline its vista.

The Quesnel City Council approved the construction of a new four-storey hotel to be built off Highway 97, on Balsam Ave and Rita Rd, across from the new Wendy’s.

The hotel will have a total of 79 units, including four long-term stay suites, six accessible rooms. In addition to the guest rooms, the hotel will have the amenities of a full conference hosting building, including an indoor pool, fitness area, meeting rooms, and breakfast area.

Councillor Mitch Vik says the approval is a first step in what the city needs as the council moves on it’s goal for Quesnel to “become a hosting city.”

“Quesnel needs infrastructure for hotels, we need extra rooms if we are to become a hosting community. We’re happy to have approved that tonight [Tuesday], and thrilled that Lhtako [Dene Nation] and the partners are moving forward.”

The hotel is the first phase of a three-phase plan to develop the property on Balsam Ave and Rita Rd. The construction of the hotel will redevelop the intersection on Rita Rd and new sidewalk sections along the roads.
