Suds to Smoke, Vehicle Catches Fire inside Local Car Wash

A routine car wash took a fiery turn when a vehicle ignited inside.

Quesnel Fire Chief Ron Richert says firefighters responded to a vehicle that had burst into flames inside the Motherlode Car Wash on Juniper Rd at around 5:45 p.m.

“The vehicle started on fire inside, but the owner was able to quickly move the vehicle outside,” says Richert. “A passerby had extinguished most of the flames with water and a fire extinguisher. Our first arriving crew was able to quickly take over and fully extinguish the fire.”

There was no structural damage to the car wash, as the owner was able to get the vehicle outside. Richert says the engine is believed to have started in the engine compartment.

He adds there no one was injured.
