Still Cold In The Cariboo But Will Warm Up Family Day long Weekend

Don’t put your long johns or toques away just yet.

Environment Canada said there is no real movement with the cold air mass that has gripped the Cariboo region for the last several days.

Meteorologist Derrick Lee said temperatures are going to remain the same until at least Friday (February 14).

“Daytime highs will be anywhere from minus 11 to minus 15 and overnight lows in the minus 20’s but the windchill will make it feel more like minus 30. So we still have a period of cold weather to deal with until it starts to warm up into the weekend. Temperatures without the windchill are sitting at anywhere between 10 to 20 degrees below.”

Lee said come the Family Day long weekend the cariboo will see more Pacific air settle in bringing warmer temperatures and perhaps some precipitation.

“We will see the temperatures rise up to the negative single digits, maybe around minus 4 to minus 6 late weekend. The overnight lows will hover around the minus 10 to minus 12 range. So a little bit warmer but we’re still trending below normal for this time of year. In terms of precipitation, flurries are back in the forecast because of the moisture coming in. We may see some flurry activity Saturday night (February 15) and into Monday morning, “Lee noted.
