Community Donates For New Bike For Youth Robbed At Gunpoint

The community of Williams Lake is opening up their wallets and heart to a youth who was robbed of his bike at gunpoint yesterday afternoon at Boitanio Skate Park.

Colin Labelle is with Red Shreds.

“After the news was out that this event happened, a member of our community named Laureen Carruthers put it out on social media that there was going to be a collection at Red Shreds so I just showed up this morning and there were a couple of people at the door already,” he says.

“We’re just about more than halfway there for a new bike but maybe don’t tell those crooks.”

Labelle says those interested in donating can stop by the shop.

RCMP released a video today and said a news release that there were a group of six males in the park, three of which approached the youth.

A male who is described as First Nations, approximately 5’9 and wearing a camouflage hoodie, allegedly pulled out what appeared to be a handgun and pointed it at the victim telling the youth, the MacNeil BMX bike was now his.

The bike’s last five digits serial number are 82044.

Anyone with further information is asked to contact Williams Lake RCMP or Crimestoppers.

(*The incident in the video below occurs near the 9:30 mark*)
